The shopkeeper wouldn't sell me flowers on the basis that I spoke Hebrew with her. It is ridiculous as when I entered the shop I greeted her in Hebrew and asked if I may park in front of the store. She replied in Hebrew that I may and I went off to park. Then when I re-entered the shop I asked to buy flowers for my mother's birthday, and she replied in a fluent Hebrew 'just a moment' and went to make a phone call. Seeing that the other person (I assume it was the owner) is not responding, I asked if there is a problem, to which responded that she 'cannot speak in Hebrew'. To which I responded that we may speak in English if she wishes... She pretended as if she didn't understand and went to offer me a sand- clock!!! I realised that she was making fun of me and that she won't sell me flowers perhaps because I am an Israeli. It is a shame that at a time when the whole world suffers a crisis after crisis, there are still people which discriminate others only on the base of their nationality. It is hard for me to believe that the shopkeeper, a young Arabic lady in her twenties doesn't speak Hebrew nor English. Especially since on this Google page, Florentine flowers respond to customers in Hebrew, English and Arabic. I cannot see any reason that explains her attitude other than racial discrimination. חוויה משפילה שאין לתאר. המוכרת לא הייתה מוכנה למכור לי פרחים מפני שדיברתי איתה עברית. הסיטואציה הזויה עוד יותר מכיוון שכשנכנסתי לחנות ובירכתי אותה בשלום היא ענתה לי בעברית. כמו כן כששאלתי אם אפשר לחנות מול החנות היא ענתה לי בעברית שכן. לאחר שחניתי, נכנסתי שוב לחנות וביקשתי ממנה זר פרחים ליום הולדתה של אמי. היא ענתה לי בעברית רהוטה 'רק שניה' וטלפנה למישהו (אני מניח שזה היה בעל החנות) לאחר שהמספר לא היה זמין; כששאלתי אם יש בעיה, המוכרת ענתה שהיא לא מדברת בעברית. אז הצעתי שנדבר באנגלית ושוב ביקשתי זר פרחים אך הפעם באנגלית. היא כנראה העמידה פנים כאילו היא לא מבינה את בקשתי, והציעה לי שעון-חול. ברגע זה הבנתי, שכנראה שהיא עושה ממני צחוק ופשוט לא מוכנה למכור לי לא פרחים ולא נעליים. לכן אמרתי תודה והלכתי. זוהי פשוט בושה שבימים אלו, כאשר כל העולם סובל ממשבר אחר משבר, ישנם אנשים שמפלים לרעה אחרים על בסיס זהותם הלאומית. הרי מה בסה"כ רציתי: לקנות זר פרחים... קשה לי להאמין שהמוכרת, צעירה ערבית בשנות העשרים לחייה, אינה דוברת עברית או אנגלית. במיוחד על סמך תגובות קודמות מתאם החנות הנמצאות כאן בדף שכתובות בעברית ובאנגלית. איני מוצא סיבה להתנהגות כזו חוץ מאפליה גזענית לאור יום.
